Class and Home Lesson Plans for Co-ops
The Connecting with History philosophy is that families are the primary teachers of their children. The classroom plans are written to expand upon what the families do at home, they are not a replacement for family involvement.

  • Classroom Lesson Plans are written for co-ops and hybrid schools that meet one day per week. The classroom lesson plans include history and coordinated literature classes.
  • Family Lesson Plans include a 4-day per week schedule that includes reading assignments, memorization, and preparation for classroom activities.

Co-op FAQs

I just have a small informal group. Do I have to use the Co-op Edition?
Small groups, where families just meet in one another's homes without formal classroom time, can use the regular
Homeschool Edition of the program. Generally they meet to do projects together and share what they have done at home.

For larger co-ops who have formal classroom time once per week, we have family and classroom materials specifically for co-ops. The families have their own Co-op Edition Lesson Plans (one per family) and each classroom has a Classroom Teacher Guide with lesson plans for once per week classes.

How long are classes designed to be?
The classroom teacher plans are provide plans and materials for an approximately 45 minutes History Class and 45 minute Literature Class. These may be taught separately or as a combined approximately 1.5 hour class. You may choose to shrink down or expanded upon the provided materials based on your co-op's class time requirements.

Are History and Literature taught as one class or separate classes.
This depends on your specific co-op and teachers. We have designed the classroom plans to come as a bundle, but they are separately bound books. This enables you to split History and Literature between two teachers or both guides may be used by a single teacher.

Do co-op classes take the place of teaching history at home?
Our co-op classes are designed to be supplemental enrichment and do not take the place of at-home study. Co-op classes provide a unique opportunity for group learning and activities, group discussions, and experience presenting to a group.
Home lesson plans are designed to seamlessly flow with the co-op experience; families have lesson plans for 4 days a week to read and learn about the topics at home that will then be explored with activities and discussion on the 5th day at co-op.

What do co-op families do at home?
Co-op Family Lesson Plans (1 per family) provide a streamlined version of the Connecting with History Program, including lesson plans with home reading assignments, project ideas, discussion prompts, and teacher resources.

What resources to teachers have?
Co-op Classroom Lesson Plans provide:
  • An Overview Article for each unit, outlining the unit theme as it relates to salvation history as well as the people and events of the time period. This article provides valuable teacher prep, historical context, and talking points.
  • Discussion prompts for leading Socratic discussions.
  • A timeline of each unit that summarizes the time period at a glance.
  • Classroom lesson plans with all of teacher prep, materials, readings, and activities listed at a glance.
