American children are particularly interested in Saint Rose of Lima because she is one the othe few canonized saints in the new world.  She was born at Lima, Peru in 1586 and died there August 30, 1617. Despite that fact that she wanted to join the Dominican order, out of obedience to her father who did not want her to be a nun, she became a Third Order Dominican instead.

Level 2 books are about 90-96 pages each and are written for about a fourth grade reading level or higher, although some third graders are able to read them as well because of the large print size and double spacing between lines. This series has books about well-known saints, but it also includes stories about saints and other Catholics that you don't hear about very often.
