Description More Information

Institute for Excellence in Writing & Connecting with History

Following Connecting with History’s units, this writing class will teach LEVEL B of the Institute for Writing in Excellence structure and style of effective writing. This writing class is the next step for students who have just completed any Level A Institute for Excellence in Writing course.
This class will teach structure and style of effective writing. Taught by a certified IEW instructor with over fifteen years of experience, the class will use source texts from the CWH program to learn the foundational skills of the IEW program, thereby reinforcing the history material studied throughout the school year.
This school year’s lessons will lead up to students learning how to write five-paragraph essays, which is the structure of most writing in high school and beyond. Vocabulary and grammar are built into the lessons as a natural method of learning through writing. This class is the first semester of a two-semester course (24 weeks) where the teacher works in tandem with the homeschool parent. Personalized feedback will be provided for the weekly assignments. Weekly classes include review, lessons, vocabulary, grammar, and constant encouragement. Writing has never been so enjoyable!
For students in Years 1, 2 or 3 of Connecting with History

IEW Level B:
Typically for students in grades 6-8, this class requires that students have had at least one year of IEW experience. The writing course begins with a brief review, so an older student with no IEW experience may easily catch on. This course will work through all nine IEW units, and students will end the school year writing five-paragraph essays.

Schedule: Mondays, 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time
Class Dates: August 31, 2021, through November 15, 2021
Cost: $199 per semester/student
This class will continue in January, and you will need to re-register.
