Teaching Classics
in the Logic and Rhetoric Stages

In the Logic and Rhetoric stages of Connecting with History your student will be exposed to more primary historical writings as well as classic literature written during or set in the time period your family is studying.  For those of us who do not hold a degree in classical studies, history or literature teaching these great works may be a daunting proposition.

RC History has compiled several resources to assist you in teaching the classics and to assist your student in reading and learning from the classics.

We want your experience to fruitful and fun, not stressful and overwhelming.

We know you can do it!

Invitation to the Classics
by Louise Cowan and Os Guiness

This book has been an invaluable companion through my years of homeschooling older children.  It includes articles at the beginning about what makes a classic book truly classic, why they are so important, and how they should be approached (as good stories!).

Then come the books and authors, in chronological order, each with an introductory article by a Christian/Catholic scholar who gives the necessary background information to put the work in context.  Extra information included such as the best edition to use and what to read, as well as a few discussion/essay questions make this highly readable book a treasured asset to any classical homeschool.
