Very little is known about Saint Christopher, but he probably lived during the third century. According to legend, he was a giant who decided to seek out the greatest king on earth and to serve him. After meeting a holy man who told him about Jesus, Christopher agreed to follow the man’s advice and to serve Jesus by carrying people across a dangerous river.

One day a small boy asked to be carried across the river—it was Jesus! Today, Saint Christopher is known as the patron saint of travelers. Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of Saint Christopher, who devoted his life to serving Jesus by helping others.

Level 1 books in the Footsteps of the Saints series are about 32 pages each and are written as read-alouds for your beginning readers at about a second grade reading level. The print size is large to make it easier to read for young readers, and there are many wonderful illustrations to give a visual for your younger children who are listening.
