Connecting With History:
A Guide to Salvation History
Old Testament and Ancient History

Connecting With History follows the outline of Old Testament salvation history.

The Connecting With History program includes an introductory week and ten thematic units which can be covered over the course of a semester or a school year, depending on how each individual family chooses to use it.

We have designed this program to be flexible in order to fit your family’s schedule and needs.

The purpose of this guide is to present historical information in such a way that it is useful to both teacher and student, by providing both a framework and a method that will engage the student in the study of history.

The framework we have chosen to present is that of Salvation History.

Connecting With History also introduces you to a method of teaching through which the child’s natural curiosity and desire to know more about the world is encouraged through a series of steps which allow the student to make personal connections with the historical information, as well as simplifying the task of teaching in a home setting.

Each of the ten units contains an outline for our six-step CONNECT methodTM of study which prepares the teacher and student for each unit.

Steps include:

bullet teacher's notes and discussion starters
bullet an overview so students and teachers know where they are headed on their journey through the time period
bullet instructions and ideas for compiling a Student Notebook
bullet writing ideas
bullet hands-on activity ideas
bullet reading assignments for each unit
bullet memory and copy work including poetry and scripture passages
bullet research charts to help students focus in on the people and civilizations covered in the unit.

Because the program was designed with multi-age teaching in mind we have arranged the units into developmental levels rather than individual grades.

All of the units and materials used are split into four main age categories:

Beginner’s Level for grades K-3

Grammar Level for grades 4-6

Logic/Dialectic Level for grades 7-9

Rhetoric Level for grades 10-12

With this system you will be able to combine the studies of children within the same age categories as well as have all the children in your family studying the same general theme at the same time, but at their own level of ability and understanding.   Read more about the learning stages
