The Great Adventure: A Journey Through the Bible

Has Become....

T3: The Teen Timeline

The Connecting With History syllabus has been structured to correspond to the time periods following the Old Testament salvation history included in the Great Adventure program and timeline developed by Jeff Cavins.  The Great Adventure presents an overview of the Bible following the main characters and events of the Old Testament chronologically to convey the Big Picture of salvation history.

RC History is proud to carry the Teen Timeline version of the Great Adventure program, presented by gifted youth teacher, Mark Hart (aka The Bible Geek).  Thoroughly Catholic, thoroughly Biblical, you will come away with a new and deeper love of scripture and knowledge of God's plan working through history!  Same great content as the original Great Adventure series, updated with a more dynamic presentation for the new millenium!

We highly recommend that you use the DVD series and timeline in the introductory week of Connecting with History with students in grades 5-12 and then review the individual segments throughout the school year.  If your students are younger you will still want to view the program yourself in preparation for teaching your children.

Note: although we highly recommend the Great Adventure to our Connecting with History families, we do not require it - Connecting with History stands alone!

Making Senses Out of Scripture:
Reading the Bible as the First Christians Did by Mark Shea
  $14.99
A convert from Evangelical Christianity and author of several books of Catholic apologetics, Mark Shea has a gift for explaining the Bible and Catholic theology in a way that is  profound yet easy to understand and even humorous!  The first section of this book tells the story of salvation history, heavily referencing the covenant theology work of Scott Hahn.  The second section of Making Senses Out of Scripture explains the four theological “senses” of Scriptural interpretation used by the Catholic Church throughout history: literal, allegorical, anagogical and moral.  Don’t let the technical terms frighten you off, Mr. Shea includes plenty of simple explanation and practical examples throughout to help you read the Bible with the mind of the Church.  We have included reading breakdowns of this book for you, the parent/teacher, coordinated with each of our units in Connecting With History.

Where We Got the Bible:
Our Debt to the Catholic Church
by Henry Graham
 $8.00
Before you study the Bible it’s helpful to understand what the Bible is and from where it truly came.  Bishop Henry Graham, a convert from Scottish Calvinism, wrote this powerful little book to prove that the Bible truly is the most Catholic of all books.  He explains the history of not only how the Bible came to be written, but also how the books of Sacred Scripture were compiled, preserved and authoritatively proclaimed to be the inerrant Word of God - all by the Catholic Church! This easy-to-read book tells the fascinating story of the Church's love for the Bible and demolishes the falsehoods and myths which abound, claiming that the Catholic Church is opposes Scripture.  Where We Got the Bible is included in our introduction week lesson plans for the Dialectic and Rhetoric levels.  Also useful background reading.

You Can Understand the Bible by Peter Kreeft  $15.99
Sub-titled: A Practical and Illuminating Guide to Each Book in the Bible.  It is just that!  Practical in that it takes you through one book of the Bible at a time giving simple introductions to the themes and content from Genesis to Revelations.  Illuminating because your guide is Peter Kreeft, professor of philosophy at Boston College who has a gift for taking hard subjects and making them easy to understand without dumbing them down.  This book is "lively, entertaining, and intelligent"!*  Perfect for high school and adult "who want to deepen their spiritual lives.  The beauty of this book is that it literally makes the [Bible] come alive.
