63 B.C. through mid-11th century A.D.
An in-depth study of the New Testament and Early Church history as well as the Roman Empire and the missionary movements into Europe including the early Britains, Celts and Vikings. This volume emphasizes the life and death of Christ as the central point of history and goes on to show the birth and spread of the Church as the Body of Christ, and its perseverance and growth through persecutions. The Church moves forward into the medieval period of history, spreading to new nations and replacing the Roman Empire with the Holy Roman Empire.
*Please note: The teacher’s guide for the Connecting with History program is contained in Volume One. If you are beginning with Volume Two and do not already own Volume One you may contact us to download a supplemental teacher's guide to accompany Volume Two.
If you have used Volume One you will notice some additions to this new volume:
The writing and hands-on activities section has been greatly expanded with ideas for all ages. These projects and activities came from the creative mind of Julie Novak, elementary teacher and homeschooling mother of eight.
Study guides for twelve historical novels are included in the program. The study guides were written by Margot Davidson, author of the Novel Inquiries series written for Volume One. (See list of study guides below)
The Overview section of the program includes a picture study based on the book, 2000 Years of Christianity by Gloria Thomas and Warren Carroll. These picture studies walk the parent and child through the details of each painting, century by century, introducing persons and events in a visual and narrative dimension which will appeal to more learning styles while involving family members of any age.
Because the program was designed with multi-age teaching in mind we have arranged the units into developmental levels rather than individual grades.
Each age level includes a booklist made up of age-appropriate core textbooks, non-fiction books, literature and historical fiction. For your convenience we carry all of the recommended resources! (See link below) All of the book suggestions are available from this website. Core Texts are necessary to using the program. You can choose to purchase all the books for a level in one convenient, discounted book package or you may wish to pick and choose titles from our list.
